Registration information
The Enrique Algarra Documentary Photography Award was born in 2018 on the occasion of the Photon photojournalism festival, and since 2019 it is organized and promoted by the Escola Superior de Disseny de València.
It is aimed at students and graduates of European schools and universities who have resorted, or will resort, to documentary photography as a means of expression in their final project to obtain the Degree.
The prize is sponsored by Enrique Algarra, photographer and former professor at the Escola Superior de Disseny de València.
Participation requirements
It is aimed at students and graduates of European schools and universities who have used, or will use, documentary photography as the main means of expression in their final project to obtain the MECES level I or II degree, under the name of final degree project, Final Degree Project, Integrated Project…, as well as projects carried out in non-regulated studies with a minimum duration of two years, all of them presented in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic years.
Registration and presentation of projects
The registration and presentation of projects will be done in digital format through this form. The projects submitted will be a copy in pdf format of the final project approved at the school or university where he/she is or has been enrolled. The texts may be in the official languages of the Valencian Community -Spanish, Valencian- or in English. Registration will be available from June 2022 until January 15, 2023.
Jury, selection of finalists and choice of winner
The jury will be composed of Enrique Algarra and the teaching staff of the Escola Superior de Disseny de València. They will be in charge of supervising the final works submitted, selecting the finalists and deciding which work is worthy of the award.
Prize
The prize will consist of an economic amount of 1,500 € gross, a camera donated by Canon and Fotopro and the reproduction of the photographs by the Estudio Fotográfico Paco Mora of the city of Valencia. The Escola Superior de Disseny de València will assume the publication of the winning project with the means at its disposal and will be responsible for the dissemination of the same through its website, social networks and other digital resources.
The prize may be declared void if the works submitted do not meet, in the opinion of the jury, the required level.
Image capture. Transfer of image rights, editing, reproduction and dissemination
The selected participants accept the capture of their image and the reproduction of the same, together with their name and surname, and indication of the prize obtained through publications, digital or printed on any support, edited by the Escola Superior de Disseny de València, for informative and promotional purposes of the prize.
The participants accept, with respect to the photographs that make up the project submitted to the contest, the public communication through the Internet or printed, in any medium, through publications published by the Escola Superior de Disseny de València; the telematic transmission or by any other means; the storage in a server center, for information and promotional purposes of the prize.
Participants undertake and declare, under their sole responsibility, that they are the authors of the documentary photographs submitted and that they have the exploitation rights to the extent necessary to transfer them to the Escola Superior de Disseny de València for the aforementioned purposes and that if they are not, they also have the exploitation rights to the extent necessary to transfer them to the Escola Superior de Disseny de València for the aforementioned purposes.
Presentation of documents
Participants undertake to fill in all the digital documents specified in the annex.
- Registration form.
- Affidavit of authorship and ownership of exploitation rights.
- Responsible declaration on the images provided and their content, as well as on the possible claims derived from their dissemination.
- Academic proof of having obtained an A in the project submitted to the contest.
- PDF document of the project with a maximum of 20 pages. The content of the document will be composed of: Cover page, Abstract (100 words) and the Photographs of the project, distributed with one photograph per page. The size of the PDF cannot exceed 50Mb.
- The Abstract (100 words maximum) must include the following aspects:
- Problem statement (Purpose)
- Methods (Procedure/Approach)
- Results (Discovery/Solutions)
- Conclusions (Implication/Contribution)
Legal Notice
Participation in the award requires the acceptance of its terms and conditions. The Enrique Algarra Documentary Photography Award reserves the right to reject those applications that do not comply with the requirements and conditions specified in this call for entries.
